If the court is concerned that parental conflict may interfere with implementation of the ordered Parenting Plan, a Parenting Coordinator (PC) is often appointed. The job of the PC is outlined in detail in the official Order of Appointment, but it usually means helping parents put the Plan into practice in the best interests of the children. That help comes in scheduled conferences which both parents attend, and where they can raise their concerns about how the Plan is being followed, or propose minor changes in the Plan.
We work with parents to reduce conflict and resolve disputes. When parents are at an impasse, we are authorized by the court to make formal recommendations which can resolve specific issues.
In case of emergency, we will make every effort to schedule a PC conference within 24 hours, usually by telephone.
We have prepared an unofficial manual for parents working with a PC, called “Partners in Parenting: How to Get Maximum Benefit From Your Parenting Coordinator.”
